Description

A FAMILY VACATION. AN EXPLOSIVE DISASTER. A DESPERATE STRUGGLE TO GET HOME.PILGRIMAGE is a stand-alone post-apocalyptic story of survival. It was previously published as three separate novellas: Crossing, Refuge, and Advent. High School teacher James Rockwell is vacationing in Maine with his family, when an earth-changing explosion sends them on a race for their lives. Their first step is escaping an island in the midst of a tsunami, and it only gets more dangerous from there. Can they find their way home as civilization crumbles around them? And if they do, what horrors will they find? It's a bullet-train of a thriller riding on the edge of the rails to the last page.

James, his wife Leigh, and their two children are on vacation in Maine when the lights went out and the island they were vacationing on was drowned by a tsunami. They managed to get to the highest structure and were safe by a few inches. Was it a bomb? Had they been attacked? All they knew was that there was no electricity, no radio or tv, and their cellphones were dead. The Rockwells quickly learned that, given the opportunity, mankind showed their basic depravity. What little they had someone wanted it for themselves and were willing to kill to take it. Their trip back to Maryland is the rest of the story. The characters are well defined and quickly attach themselves to the reader. Their pain is felt, their doubts and fears are familiar, and you know them - that family a few doors down that you just knew were going to be friends. The stories begin where Steve Konkoly's Perseid Collapse series begin - with the explosion and EMP effects, followed by a towering tsunami clearing away man's thin veneer of civilization. Excellent storylines and characters as only Tom Abrahams can present. Great read!
