Description

When the picture of a dog taking a squat shows up on every computer and cell phone screen with the words, "IT Happens," Jimmy Walker knew things would never be the same again. What he didn't know was just how bad it would be. Bugging out to his cabin in the Manistee National Forest, Jimmy figured he would ride out the storm there. He knew there would be trouble from the criminal element and those who had not prepared but hadn't counted on the United Nations moving in and gathering people up to be 'relocated,' too. Banding together with others in the valley, Jimmy works to meet the threats that seem to come from all directions at once.

I came into the story around the middle of the first book but went back to the beginning and dug right in.As a former Sheriff Deputy and combat trained soldier, with training as a Medic and HazMat Technician, I felt I had a good grasp on what to expect from a book of this type. I was right and wrong. The author has done a SPECTACULAR job of thoroughly researching the topic and nuances to be expected when crafting a book that encompasses many different aspects of survival, combat, homesteading and overall personal growth in this book. One could certainly expect that the thought processes required, and a knowledge of the inner workings of a military mind, would be required to flesh out a book of this type, and if the author, Leann, wasn't a military trained woman, you'd never know it while digesting the words. That said, I'll say this: IF Leann hasn't been in the military and if she didn't have a very experienced person to coach her on the inner workings of a bunch of Small Unit Tactics, she's done a HELL OF A LOT of reading from many military manuals to glean the information to let the reader actually have a good feel for being present and participating in this (hopefully) fictitious story. After following along weekly until the very end, I was happy to discuss the book with Leann and she graciously sent me a personally signed copy of this first book.I count it as being my FAVORITE book and, in addition to reading the weekly entries, I have read "Aftermath, A Story of Survival" TWICE, now. It is THAT good!Thank you, Leann, for your efforts in bringing this most entertaining novel out for all to read!! I think I mentioned to you in our chats that you just might have a talent for writing! LOL.All kidding aside, Leann, you have done a GREAT job and I continue to enjoy every single weekly contribution towards your next book that carryies on this story. I count you as a Very GOOD Friend, Ma'am!!God Bless you and yours AND your Furbabies.
